On some plans, your data doesn’t land on the eSIM all at once. It comes in portions, for example 5 GB at a time. A destination’s page shows which plans do, and what comes back for how much you use.
How it works
- Your eSIM starts with the first portion, and the next one is added as soon as you start using it.
- As you use data, another portion is added by itself, ahead of time. You don’t do anything, and your connection isn’t interrupted.
- When the plan ends, every portion that was never opened comes back to you as credit, at its share of what you paid.
Say you buy 20 GB in four 5 GB portions and use 8 GB on your trip. Three portions were opened and one wasn’t, so a quarter of the price comes back as credit.
What isn’t credited
Data that’s already on your eSIM counts as opened, even if some of it is left over. Your eSIM’s page shows which part is on the eSIM and which isn’t opened yet.
Where the credit goes and what it pays for: see Credit and your balance.
Some plans arrive in full instead. Their eSIM’s page says so, and there’s nothing unopened to credit back.
